Celebrate the Legacy of Kate and Gustav Weindorfer at Cradle Mountain Lodge

On 4th January 2025, join us in a momentous celebration of Kate Weindorfer’s historic summit of Cradle Mountain 115 years ago, and Gustav Weindorfer’s visionary proclamation, “This must be a National Park for the people of all time. It is magnificent, and people must know about it and enjoy it.”

We invite you to Cradle Mountain Lodge for a day of walking, exploration, and reflection, culminating in an indulgent High Tea. This is an occasion to immerse yourself in the stunning beauty and rich history of Cradle Mountain, as we honour the Weindorfers’ enduring legacy.

The Day’s Journey:

10:00 AM – The day begins in the Weindorfer Lounge at Cradle Mountain Lodge, where you will be welcomed with tea and coffee, setting the tone for a memorable day.

10:30 AM – Option 1: Kate’s Walk: A guided walk with breathtaking views of Cradle Mountain awaits. Travel by shuttle to Snake Hill, where you will embark on a scenic 2.5 km journey through the Cradle Valley boardwalk, offering awe-inspiring views of the mountain. (Approx. 45 minutes)

11:15 AM – Option 2: Guests will take the Shuttle Bus from the Ranger’s Station to Ronny Creek, followed by a short walk up to the historic Waldheim Chalet.

12:00 PM – All guests will converge at Waldheim Chalet for a photo opportunity before embarking on a tranquil stroll around Weindorfer’s Forest Walk. A visit to the Weindorfer Memorial will offer a moment of reflection on the Weindorfers’ extraordinary legacy.

1:15 PM – Return to the Lodge via shuttle bus.

2:00 – 4:00 PM – Conclude your day with an exquisite High Tea at Highlands Restaurant. Savour a carefully curated selection of delectable treats, crafted by the renowned chefs of Cradle Mountain Lodge.

Cost: $85 per person (Excludes Shuttle Bus and National Park Passes)

  • Alcoholic Beverages (available for purchase from Highland Restaurant during High Tea)
  • Shuttle Bus transfer directly to Waldheim for guests with mobility issues
